Day Four
Friday 16th of August, 9:00am to 6:00pm
I spent Day Four of my internship learning to use Elementor, the est living content management system (CMS). Elementor is software that lets est living create, edit, and publish web content without needing in-depth coding skills. My areas of interest in Digital Media are Web-design and UX so learning to use Elementor is a valuable skill for my professional practise.
I was tasked with completing a number of Elementor tutorials and applying this knowledge by editing content on the est living home page. One example is a section of the home page called the Image Hotspots that contains an image of a featured article with ‘hotspots’ on specific items within the image. Hovering over the ‘hotspots’ opens dynamic overlays for that specific item that pull from the Product Library.
To complete this task:
I first asked the Chief Editor, Sophie, which article she would like to be featured in this section.
I reviewed this article and compared the images to assess which images contained upwards of four items that are existing product listings on the est living Product Library.
After selecting an image, I notified Sophie, and she approved my selection.
Editing with Elementor: I entered the image container and selected the approved image from the media library.
I added five ‘hotspots’ within the image container and used x and y coordinates to position the ‘hotspots’ over the desired items.
Using the ‘hotspots’ content editor I added text, the product band and name, and short code containing the product image source and href link to the product listing.
