Day One

Thursday 8th of August, 9:00am to 6:00pm

Today, I started my internship.

Throughout the process of searching for an internship, I discovered that it is essential for me to find an opportunity that aligned with my design interests and where I could develop my design skills. The company that I am interning at, est living, is a digital publication on architecture and design that offers a balance between marketing, sales and editorial content.

My First Task

estliving.com has an extensive product data base that is referred to on the site as the Product Library. The Product Library is an essential part of the business because it enables brands and retailers to feature there products on est living, the product listings are used throughout editorial content to inspire readers.

My first task is familiarising myself with the Product Library and learn how to create and edit product listings. This involves:

  • Coordinating with clients to organise which products they would like me to add to the Product Library. In the case of a new client, I need to create brand or retailer page that includes a description of the client, the logo, featured image, email form and link to the clients website.

  • Creating each Product listing involves: Creating a description of the product in the est living tone, adding tags, categorising the product and edition images that will be displayed on the site.

Working with my supervisor and learning about the Product Library was valuable because it taught me about SEO considerations and how content is categorised on est living. Categorisation, navigation and user experience on the site will be important for me to consider over the coming weeks as I work alongside my supervisor, Miffy (managing director ) and Jack (creative and concept designer) to improve navigation and efficiency on estliving.com.

I ended the day with a meeting with Miffy and Jack where we brainstormed different ideas and possibilities improve navigation and efficiency. I was provided with Elementor (CMS used on the site) tutorials and the Figma files so that I can begin designing solutions for the site.
